ALFRED JOSEPH CASSON, (Groupe des sept, en remplacement de Franz Johnston)
Le peintre canadien Alfred Joseph Casson naît à Toronto en 1898. À 15 ans, apprenti-lithographe à Hamilton, il étudie l'art à la « Central Technical School de Toronto ». À 17 ans, Casson tient sa 1ère expo à la « Canadian National Exposition ». Carmichael, du Groupe des Sept, l’incite à peindre. Ensemble, ils fondent la Société canadienne des aquarellistes. Connu pour ses représentations de forêts, de paysages et de fermes du sud de l'Ontario, son style comporte des couleurs claires et des motifs d'arrière-plan. Lorsque Franz Johnston quitte le Groupe des Sept en 1924, c’est Casson qui le remplace en 1926. En 1929, Il épouse Margaret. Alfred Joseph Casson meurt en 1992 et est enterré dans l'enceinte de la Collection McMichael d'art canadien, avec six autres membres du Groupe des Sept.
The Canadian painter Alfred Joseph Casson was born in Toronto in 1898. At age 15, apprentice-lithographer in Hamilton, he studied art at Central Technical School in Toronto. At age 17, Casson has his first exhibition at the Canadian National Exposition. Carmichael, from the Group of Seven, encourages him to paint. Together, they founded the Canadian Society of Watercolourists. Known for his portrayals of Southern Ontario's forests, landscapes and farms, his style features bright colors and background patterns. When Johnston left the Group of Seven in 1926, Casson replaced him. In 1929, he married Margaret. Alfred Joseph Casson died in 1992 and is buried in the grounds oh the McMichael Canadian Art Gallery, along with six other members of the Group of Seven.
