FREDERICK GRANT BANTING
Le peintre canadien Frederick Grant Banting nait en 1891 à Alliston, en Ontario. Co-découvreur de l'insuline, Banting remporte le prix Nobel de médecine en 1923. Sa carrière artistique est remarquable. Il peint déjà en 1920 et expose ses premières esquisses en 1925. Blessé en Angleterre, il rentre au Canada et cherche le peintre A.Y. Jackson. Forts de leurs expériences en matière de guerre et de leur enthousiasme pour l'art et les paysages, ils peignent partout au Canada. Banting trouve un répit de sa vie de médecin dans la peinture. Voulant prendre sa retraite de la recherche médicale et peindre à plein temps, Banting a 49 ans quand il est tragiquement tué dans un accident d’avion.

The Canadian painter Frederick Grant Banting was born in 1891 in Alliston, Ontario. Co-discoverer of insulin, Banting won the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1923. His artistic career is remarkable. He painted in 1920 and exhibited his first sketches in 1925. Wounded in England, he returns to Canada and finds painter A.Y. Jackson. With their common wartime experiences and enthusiasm for art and landscape, they form a strong friendship and paint throughout Canada. Banting finds a respite from his life as a doctor in painting. Wanting to retire from medical research and paint full-time, Banting is 49 when he is tragically killed in a plane crash.
