DAPHNE ODJIG
L’artiste-peintre amérindienne du Canada Daphne Odjig origine de la nation Odawa-Potawatomi. Plusieurs de ses œuvres explorent l'identité autochtone et les paysages du Canada rural. Née le 11 septembre 1919 en la réserve Wikwemikong, elle développe un intérêt pour les arts dès son plus jeune âge. Au début de la 2e guerre elle oeuvre à Toronto, travaille dans des usines, apprend son art au Musée royal de l'Ontario et dans les galeries d'art locales. À la fin de la guerre, elle déménage au Manitoba où elle travaille sur des croquis de membres de la nation Cri. Elle fonde la « Professional Native Indian Artists Association ». Odjid décède le 1er octobre 2016 à Kelowna, CB, Canada.

The canadian First Nations artist Daphne Odjig is a from the Odawa-Potawatomi nation. Many of her works explore indigenous identity and landscapes of rural Canada. Born on September 11, 1919 on Wikwemikong Unceded Indian Reserve, Canada, she developed an interest in the arts from a young age. At the outbreak of World War II she moved to Toronto to work in factories, learning of her art at the Royal Ontario Museum and local art galleries in her spare time. After the end of the war, she relocated to Manitoba where she worked on sketches of members of the Cree nation and founded the Professional Native Indian Artists Association. Odjig died on October 1, 2016 in Kelowna, BC, Canada.
