The painter Alex Katz was born in New York on July 24, 1927. He is an important figure in contemporary American painting. His figurative work develops a theme associated with Pop Art. However, he prefers to stay away from the movement to assert a more personal universe, dominated by the figure of his wife, Ada. Focusing on compositions influenced by photography and cinema, he is recognized as a defining reference. The off-scale treatment of the faces, their layout, the simplification of shapes and plans, the reduction of the color range and the repetition in certain compositions of the same subject, pull these images towards a realism that is adorned with mystery.
