BÉRYL COOK
L’artiste peintre naive britannique Béryl Cook naît le 10 septembre dans le Surrey. Elle peint des scènes humoristiques de personnes dodues s'amusant en commun lors de situations sociales, comme faire du shopping, boire dans les bars ou danser dans les clubs. Sans formation professionnelle elle commence à peindre à l'âge de 40 ans. Un ami vend certaines de ses peintures. Sa réputation s’envole. En 1975, elle tient sa première expo au Plymouth Arts Center et est présentée dans le magazine du « The Sunday Times ». Elle expose à Londres à la Portal Gallery en 1976. Elle décède le 28 mai 2008 à Plymouth dans le Devon de l’Angleterre.

Naïve British painter Beryl Cook was born on September 10 in Surrey. She paints humorous scenes of plump people having fun together in social situations, such as shopping, drinking in bars or dancing in clubs. She has no professional training and started painting at the age of 40. A friend persuades her to allow her to sell some of her paintings. Her reputation blows away. In 1975, she holds her first exhibition at the Plymouth Arts Center and is featured in the newspaper magazine "The Sunday Times". Her first exhibition in London was at the Portal Gallery in 1976. She died on May 28, 2008 in Plymouth, Devon, England.
