TRiSTRAM HILLIER
Le peintre anglais Tristram Hillier naît le 11 avril 1905 à Beijing. Catholique, il fait ses études à la Downside School en Angleterre. En 1922, il retourne en Chine pour apprendre la langue. Puis, Il étudie au Christ's College de Cambridge, avec Henry Tonks et à l'Atelier Colarossi de Paris. Influencé par De Chirico et Ernst du mouvement surréaliste, il le sera toute sa vie. À la 2e Guerre, il sert dans la marine royale avec les Français libres. Puis il vit en France, Espagne, Somerset et en Angleterre. Il est nommé associé de l'Académie royale en 1957 et académicien royal en 1967. Hillier, marié deux fois, a deux filles. Il décède à Bristol (Angleterre) le 18 janvier 1983.

The English painter Tristram Hillier was born on April 11, 1905 in Beijing. Catholic, he studied at Downside School in England. In 1922, he returned to China to learn the language. Then, he studied at Christ's College in Cambridge, with Henry Tonks and at the Atelier Colarossi in Paris. He is Influenced for his life by De Chirico and Ernst of the surrealist movement. In the 2nd War, he served in the Royal Navy with the Free French troops. Then he lives in France, Spain, Somerset and England. He was named a Royal Academy Associate in 1957 and a Royal Academician in 1967. Hillier, twice married, has two daughters. He died in Bristol (England) on January 18, 1983.
