Valerio Adami est un peintre et graveur italien né le 17 mars 1935 à Bologne. Il est célèbre pour ses peintures constituées d'aplats de couleurs pures et acidulées cerclées d'un épais trait noir rapellant l'esprit des dessins de bandes dessinées. De 1952 à 1954, il étudie à l'Académie des Beaux-Arts de Milan. Durant son premier voyage à Paris en 1955, il rencontre Roberto Matta. Lors de sa première exposition personnelle à Milan en 1957, ses œuvres sont inspirées du surréalisme de Matta. À la fin des années 1960, il est l'un des représentant du mouvement de La Nouvelle Figuration. Installé à Paris en 1970, le musée d'Art Moderne lui consacre une exposition. Le centre Georges Pompidou fera de même en 1985, suivi par le Grand Palais en 2008. Il entreprend de longs voyages, au Mexique (1969, 1981), en Inde (1977, 1982), dans les pays nordiques (1988). L'artiste partage son temps entre Paris, Monaco, l'Italie et l'Inde.

Valerio Adami is an Italian painter and engraver born March 17, 1935 in Bologna. He is famous for his paintings consisting of flat areas of pure and tangy colors surrounded by a thick black line reminiscent of the spirit of comic book drawings. From 1952 to 1954, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Milan. During his first trip to Paris in 1955, he met Roberto Matta. During his first solo exhibition in Milan in 1957, his works were inspired by Matta's surrealism. At the end of the 1960s, he was one of the representatives of the La Nouvelle Figuration movement. Established in Paris in 1970, the Museum of Modern Art devoted an exhibition to him. The Georges Pompidou center will do the same in 1985, followed by the Grand Palais in 2008. He undertook long trips, in Mexico (1969, 1981), in India (1977, 1982), in the Nordic countries (1988). The artist divides his time between Paris, Monaco, Italy and India.
