Frans Francken le jeune est un peintre flamand spécialisé dans les peintures de grande taille aux thèmes historiques, bibliques, mythologiques et religieux. Ses œuvres imaginatives montrent des singes en train d’effectuer des activités humaines, des scènes mythologiques ou encore des sabbats de sorcières. Né en 1581 à Anvers en Belgique, il est formé par son père et son oncle, peintres accomplis. Les œuvres de Francken se trouvent, entre autres, dans les collections du Victoria and Albert Museum et de la National Gallery of Art à Londres ainsi que du Rijksmuseum à Amsterdam. Il meurt le 6 mai 1642 à Anvers.
Frans II Francken or Frans Francken the Younger is a Flemish painter specializing in large paintings with historical, biblical, mythological and religious themes. His imaginative works show monkeys performing human activities, mythological scenes or witches' sabbats. Born in 1581 in Antwerp, Belgium, he is trained by his father and uncle, accomplished painters. Francken's works can be found, among others, in the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum and the National Gallery of Art in London as well as the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. He died on May 6, 1642 in Antwerp.
