WILLIAM THURSTON TOPHAM,(Groupe de Beaver Hall)
Le peintre montréalais William Thurston Topham naît en 1888 à Spondon, dans le Derbyshire, en Angleterre. Il y étudie l'architecture et voyage en Allemagne et à Paris. Au début des années 1900, il émigre à Montréal, au Québec, et peint à plein temps. Son sujet: Les Laurentides. Parallèlement aux paysages, il a également peint des portraits, des intérieurs et des scènes de guerre de la 1ère Guerre mondiale où il été soldat. Il devient membre du groupe de Beaver Hall en 1926, expose avec la Royal Canadian Academy de 1918 à 1952 et l'American Association of Museums de 1913 à 1947. Son travail fait aussi partie de la collection du Musée canadien de la guerre. Il décède à Montréal en 1966.

The Montreal painter William Thurston Topham was born in 1888 in Spondon, Derbyshire, England. He studied architecture and traveled to Germany and Paris. In the early 1900s, he emigrated to Montreal, Quebec, and painted full time. His main subject is the Laurentians. He works in oil, acrylic, watercolors and pastels. Parallel to the landscapes, he also painted: portraits, interiors and war scenes from the First World War where he was a soldier. He became a member of the Beaver Hall Group in 1926. He exhibited with the Royal Canadian Academy from 1918 to 1952 and the American Association of Museums from 1913 to 1947. His work is also in the collection of the Canadian War Museum. He died in Montreal in 1966.
